Cat Cam: Great Horned Owl

UPDATE: The owls have fledged. Check back next year to follow along.

Nestflix: Campus Cat Cam Captures Live Look at Great Horned Owl

The great horned owl (Bubo virginianus) is one of the most common native owls in North America – and one of the newest on-campus residents atop the Social Sciences and Management Building. Located adjacent to the Merced Vernal Pools and Grassland Reserve (MVPGR), the recent find is one of the many wildlife creatures spotted at UC Merced. Thanks to the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, birds such as this owl and its owlets are protected and will be allowed to continue nesting on campus. The community is invited to take a sneak beak and live look at the nest – and like its subject's nocturnal nature, the Cat Cam will be up and running owl night long.
