Campus community members can share their feedback about an interim campus policy that covers demonstrations and assembly, free speech, non-university speakers and use of university facilities.
The Office of Campus Climate and Compliance is hosting a town hall meeting on the Interim Policy on Expressive Activities and Assembly: Protests, Demonstrations, Non-University Speakers and Posting on Campus and in University Facilities from 4-5:30 p.m. March 19 in Room 217 of the Kolligian Library.
The town hall’s purpose is to get as much input as possible from students, faculty and staff members before the policy is finalized.
In a campus message distributed Feb. 7, Associate Chancellor Luanna Putney informed the campus community of the interim policy that went into effect Jan. 9, 2018. The policy compiles in one place existing procedures and policies, and temporarily fills gaps. The policy applies to all students, faculty, staff and non-affiliates.
The policy is currently in effect, but campus community members still have an opportunity to review it and offer comments before it’s finalized. The deadline to submit comments is April 30, 2018. Those who have questions and concerns are encouraged to attend the town hall. You can then provide informed input by emailing the Office of Campus Climate and Compliance .

Crucial Conversations Online Survey
If you weren’t able to attend one of last week’s focus groups that are part of “Crucial Conversations: Cultural Spaces@UC Merced,” there are still ample opportunities to make your voice heard.
An online survey opened this week and will remain open until April 6. Submitted responses will construct a proposal that will be submitted to Chancellor Dorothy Leland and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Charles Nies at the end of this semester. The proposal will reflect the thoughts of the larger community about growing and expanding cultural spaces at UC Merced.
This survey is open to students, staff, and faculty. Responses will be kept confidential and no identifiers will be used. In addition to the survey, a town hall is scheduled from 5:30-7:30 p.m., April 17 in Room 105 of Classroom and Office Building 1.
Last week, undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff members were invited to attend confidential focus groups where they could offer input. That feedback – only what was said, not who said it – will be compiled in a report later this semester that will be used to make recommendations.
Individual meetings are still available by appointment with Dean of Students Jonathan Grady and Assistant Director of Student Life Onar Primitivo . Kamyar Nekoui , intern for Grady, is also available for appointments or during scheduled office hours in KL 113 from 8 to 10 a.m. Mondays and Fridays, and 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesdays.
‘Crucial Conversations’ is a series of activities that aim to improve the inclusion, equity and comfort of everyone at the campus. The overall goal is to assess UC Merced’s current space needs for various constituency groups.
Help Choose the 2018 Leadership Awards Honorees
UC Merced’s Leadership Awards Committee is looking for volunteers to review nominations for the 2018 Leadership Awards.
Each reviewer will be responsible for scoring 10 to 20 nominations. Forms and scoring rubrics will be distributed via "UC Merced Box" no later than March 14 and are due March 28. Volunteers can register by filling out a reviewer registration form . Selected reviewers will be invited to attend the Leadership Awards Reception and Ceremony on April 29.
