UC Merced Extends Spring Deadline to Meet Student Demand

July 27, 2009

Applications for Spring 2010 Admissions Due August 17

MERCED - The University of California, Merced, announced today
(July 27) that it has pushed back the undergraduate deadline to
apply for Spring 2010 to Aug. 17 in order to meet continuing
demand. The extension will give prospective students two more weeks
to apply.\

“While many universities have been forced to reduce enrollment
growth, we are able to maintain our enrollment while continuing to
offer students the services, classes and individual attention they
need,” said Kevin Browne, assistant vice chancellor for enrollment
management. “That is something students and their families are
finding reassuring in these uncertain times.”

News of the university receiving its federal permit for
expansion and First Lady Michelle Obama’s commencement address has
helped put the 10th UC campus center stage in the global scene.

Campus officials have already seen a spike in fall enrollment
with a 27-percent increase in freshmen selecting to attend over
Fall 2008, and a 94-percent increase over Fall 2007.

“By extending the spring application period, we can
provide access to all academically eligible students,” Browne said.
“We want to make sure that all qualified students know that UC
Merced has place for them.”
