Baskets to Bytes
Luce fellows Manuel Dueñas Garcia, Cristyna Galarza and Scott Nicolay and team member Madeline Brown are collaborating with community partners Cecilia Moreno, UC Merced student Tachi Yokut, Wukchumni traditional basket weaver; Jennifer Malone, Wukchumni elder and traditional basket weaver; Marie Malone, Wukchumni dictionary creator, traditional basket weaver and elder; and Carolyn A. Smith, UC Berkeley postdoctoral scholar and Karuk tribal member, to produce 3D digital images of traditional baskets in museum collections so they can be shared back with communities of origin.
