Fourteen students, faculty and staff members drew upon their artistic skills to create an array of art pieces to showcase at UC Merced’s Night of Community Art on April 19. The event is the culmination of third-year undergraduate Valerie Moss' Student Success Internship through the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students. Her aim was to find creative ways to spotlight the campus’s community principles.
The submissions varied from paintings, spoken word, video projects and photographs. There were also interactive pieces available for contribution at the event, like a community mural that shows the beginnings statue where attendees could add their interpretations of the principles of community. The pieces were judged by Dean of Students Office Case Manager Armando Contreras and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Analyst Donna Birch Trahan.
