Campus community members: Here’s a chance to unleash your inner artist while championing UC Merced’s Principles of Community .
On Friday, April 19, UC Merced will host “A Night of Community Art” to showcase an array of artforms inspired by the Principles and created by students, faculty and staff members. The event takes place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Lakeview Dining Room of the Yablokoff-Wallace Dining Center.
The goal of the art show and competition is to provide a sense of unity among campus community members and showcase UC Merced’s rich tapestry of diversity, event organizer Valerie Moss said.
Everyone – individuals, student clubs and organizations, departments, schools and auxiliary units – may enter any form of artwork that is based on one of the seven Principles of Community. Moss adds that those who are interested in participating aren’t limited to submitting “traditional” art such as paintings, sculpture or photography. Any piece that’s creative and inspired by a Principle can be submitted.
For example, faculty and staff members may submit a course syllabus, speech, a teaching technique or even a picture of their office. Students can submit a video from an event or club meeting, an essay, slideshows, presentations or digital designs, logos or infographics. A list of ideas is available to review on the Dean of Students website.
Registration is required to enter an artistic piece in the show, but all campus community members are invited to attend the art show reception. Follow this link to RSVP.
