Project Wet, a program run by the Water Education Foundation, will offer area educators hands-on lessons in teaching children about the value of a sustainable future.
This is the first time such a class has been offered through UC Merced Extension Education Programs, and it takes place tomorrow(April 13) in classrooms at the recently opened Downtown Campus Center (DCC) in Merced. This is just one of many classes that will use DCC space.
About 25 regional K-12 educators are attending the all-day workshop focused on engaging young people so they become stewards of water conservation. All course content has been designed to align with UC Merced’s commitment to sustainability in practice and in research.
The Water Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization that develops and implements education programs leading to a broader understanding of water issues and to solutions for water problems.
Participants will receive educational materials and access to online resources; learn about Next Generation Science Standards; experientially learn how to implement hands-on activities in their classrooms; and learn new, creative teaching strategies.
The program is facilitated by Lynn Reimer, Ph.D., director of Education Programs for UC Merced Extension, and Jeanne Knapp, Ed.D., of the Merced Environmental Literacy Collective.
