Energize UC Merced 2021 Offers Students, Community Inspiration on Renewable Energy

April 2, 2021

The campus community and its partners can learn more about the importance of renewable energy at this year’s Energize Merced conference, an annual event hosted by UC Merced’s Solar Energy Association (SEA).

The association is a student-led group, overseen by Professor Sarah Kurtz, that puts together an annual consortium on the topic of renewable energy. Going virtual this year due to COVID-19, the aim of Energize Merced is to bring together students and professionals to collaborate and form new partnerships, develop professionally, and learn about developments in renewable energy. The event focuses on the research and developments on renewable and sustainable energy. Students also have the opportunity to network with industry representatives and academic mentors.

“We are very excited about this year’s virtual conference,” said Gabriel Llamas, a fourth-year student and SEA president who helped organize the event. “Not only did we manage to create a conference with great speakers, but we also created a space where they can easily interact with attendees and network with other people interested in renewable energy.”

Energize Merced is targeted towards undergraduate students, though all who are interested in renewable energy are encouraged to attend. The students hope Energize Merced will empower and inspire its participants to help create a world run by renewable energy. This year’s lineup features speakers from the Department of Energy, the American Solar Energy Society, campus faculty and more.

Energize Merced 2021 is a two-day virtual event beginning on 8 a.m on Friday, April 9 and 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 10.

Registration is available here.
