Vendor Security Incident Reported

March 4, 2020

Blackbaud, a vendor that UC Merced has used since 2004 for some database management services related to philanthropy and strategic partnerships, has informed the university, along with 40,000 other nonprofit clients, that it experienced an IT security incident that may have exposed some information.

The UC Merced IT team has assessed the situation and confirmed that the data involved in the incident did not include sensitive financial information. No Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, or credit card numbers were compromised.

UC Merced is working with Blackbaud to understand what actions the company has taken to increase their security. The university’s priority is the safety and security of partners’ personal and financial information. UC Merced urges partners to be vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity or suspected identity theft to the proper law enforcement authorities.
