News and Notes: Facilitators Needed for Queer Ally Program, Mandatory Training Deadline in June

April 4, 2018

The Queer Ally Program seeks engaged, fun and active volunteers to serve as facilitators during the 2018-2019 academic year.

Facilitators host workshops to educate colleagues and students about the LGBTQ+ community. Anyone who has completed Queer Ally or SafeZone training is encouraged to apply online .

The Queer Ally program, formerly known as SafeZone, identifies students and faculty and staff members who will provide empathy, acceptance, support and resources for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex students and all forms of gender expression. Its goal is to diminish discrimination by establishing a place that is free of stereotypical barriers and promotes appreciation and respect for individuals of all sexuality and gender identities.

Ethics, Compliance Office Announces Training Requirement

The Office of Ethics and Compliance announced a mandatory training all employees must take by June 25. The General Compliance Briefing on University of California Ethical Values and Conduct is an online e-course designed to raise continued awareness of UC’s Statement of Ethical Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct, convey university employment obligations with respect to ethical and compliant behavior and familiarize UC employees with important ethics and compliance information, issues and resources.

All UC employees, including students, must complete the General Compliance Briefing. Failure to complete the briefing by the due date will have a negative effect on performance appraisal ratings, and policy-covered staff will experience a mandatory reduction in merit pay.

The briefing is due within 90 days and takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. A notification email was sent last week from UC Merced’s Human Resources office with individual due dates and detailed instructions on how to access the online course. The course can also be accessed via the UC Learning Center under "Required Training." For more information, visit the Compliance Office website .
