Campus announces public policy professional with past campus experience will fill the leadership role beginning Jan. 3
Corinne Lucero, who advocated at the federal level on behalf of the University of California, Merced, has been appointed the campus' director of government relations.
Lucero served from 2007 to early this year at UC Merced as the federal director of government relations. Since February, she has been director of correspondence and communications liaison for Rep. John Garamendi, D-Walnut Creek.
“We are looking forward to Cori's return to University Relations,” said David Hosley, interim vice chancellor for University Relations. “With an extensive understanding of UC Merced, its needs and its future, she also has strong relationships with local elected officials and state legislators. UC Merced is an asset to the entire state and is increasingly impacting the region's economy. Cori will hit the ground running and provide new ideas and energy to grow our advocacy efforts.”
Lucero fills a position formerly held by Larry Salinas, who is now the UC Office of the President's associate director for institutional advocacy in state governmental relations.
She will start Jan. 3. Her job duties include managing all local, state and federal advocacy programs for the campus, tracking key legislation, building legislative support for the university, monitoring public policy issues and advising campus administrators on their potential impact.
Lucero first came to UC Merced after working for the U.S. Senate for four years.
