
MERCED - The Office of
Communicationsat
the University of California, Merced, is reaching out to a broad
audience with news and updates on the university’s summer programs
in Yosemite National Park using several access points to serve
those interested in learning more.
The programs have been under way in the park since June.
Research Experiences for Undergraduatesis a National Science
Foundation-funded program for students from all over the United
States. Each is paired with a research mentor to spend the summer
learning about environmental science in Yosemite.
The Yosemite Leadership
Programis a UC Merced effort funded by the Toyota Corporation
and Delaware North through the Yosemite Association. Twenty UC
Merced students are in the park with this program all summer as
interns in various capacities with the National Parks Service.
The programs are featured on a new landing page prominently
linked from the UC Merced home page. Visitors can reach the
UC Merced National
Parks Connectionpage by clicking the pictorial button near the
bottom of the UC Merced home page at
www.ucmerced.edu.
The programs are also featured on a
Facebook groupopen to all who wish to join and a
blogabout the
experiences of Communications staff members interacting with
students, staff and faculty in the programs. Both these locations
will also connect with new material produced about the Yosemite programs.
For example, the first of several podcasts about the students
debuts today (July 8) on the
UC Merced
podcast page.Videos and photography will follow later in the summer.
