UC Moratorium on Kaspersky Lab Technologies

October 31, 2017

The University of California Cyber-Risk Coordination Center issued a memo last week related to the use of technologies by Kaspersky Lab, which has been linked to the Russian government and cyber espionage. Effective immediately, UC is placing a systemwide moratorium on the purchase or new deployment of all Kaspersky Lab technologies, including both Kaspersky-branded products and other technologies with embedded Kaspersky code.

An internal review conducted by the Office of Information Technology has determined that there is no broad installation of Kaspersky-related technologies at UC Merced. However, some devices may contain affected software installed by individual users. The memo contains information regarding the timeline for removal of the affected technologies. Users may also direct questions to the OIT Service Desk, 209-228-HELP or helpdesk@ucmerced.edu
