Tracking of New Employee Orientation Has Begun

April 2, 2018

Dear Colleague,

Beginning today, participation in New Employee Orientation (NEO) is being tracked through the UC Learning Center .

NEO is mandatory for all newly hired non-faculty, non-student staff and registration is required. Direct supervisors are invited and encouraged to attend, participate and partner with their new employee during the in-person orientation. New staff members are expected to attend NEO within the first 60 days of starting employment with UC Merced. NEO is mandatory for represented and non-represented career staff and for all contract employees whose contract exceeds 12 months in duration.

To date, 40 new employees hired during the last appraisal cycle did not participate in NEO as required. They, along with all new hires moving forward, will begin receiving automated reminders from the UC Learning Center. Please note this requirement will be strictly enforced beginning with the new appraisal cycle beginning April 1, 2018, and all future appraisal cycles.

To register:

  • Log in to the UC Learning Center, and
  • Search for “NEO” or find it in the catalog under “New Employee Orientation.”
  • If you are unable to register through the UC Learning Center, please send an e-mail to hrtraining@ucmerced.edu . Attending NEO does not require registration through the UC Learning Center. Walk-ins are welcome.

Failure to complete NEO beginning with the April 1, 2018, appraisal cycle will have a negative effect on performance appraisal ratings, and policy-covered staff will experience a mandatory reduction in merit pay.
