Email Signature Generator Now Includes Pronouns

September 3, 2019

Colleagues,

As an institution and a community, UC Merced is foundationally committed to equity, diversity and inclusion, and we continuously seek ways to ensure that all of us feel welcome and supported.

In that spirit, we have created a mechanism through which faculty and staff can identify their gender pronouns in their email signature blocks. Not only will this help eliminate the occasional cross-cultural confusion about gendering of names, it will allow members of our community of all gender expressions and identities to request the courtesy of appropriate address.

With assistance from the Office of Information Technology and External Relations, the university’s new email signature generator allows you to specify your pronouns.

I urge you to update your email signatures to help more fully introduce yourself to your colleagues and all those with whom you communicate, as we take another step toward inclusivity at UC Merced.

Very best,

Dania Matos, J.D.

Associate Chancellor and Chief Diversity Officer
