Dear Faculty and Staff,
As mentioned in Chancellor Leland’s message yesterday, campus locations are closed today, Nov. 19. Air quality is expected to improve early this week; campus officials will provide an update regarding campus operations for Tuesday by approximately 5 p.m. today.
There have been a number of questions about what it means when the campus is closed, which employees are considered essential for maintaining critical functions, and how time reporting works during campus closure days.
Employees are expected to work remotely if they are able to. Meetings can be held via Zoom if all attendees are available. Most campus websites and services can be accessed remotely.
All employees will be paid for the campus closure dates. The chancellor has authority, within certain limits, to allow staff to continue to receive their regular pay during a campus closure. Chancellor Leland has authorized this for this closure.
Please review this FAQ: Campus Closure Due to Air Quality, and email hr@ucmerced.edu if you have more questions. This page will be updated as needed with additional questions and answers.
Sincerely,
Human Resources
