A Message Regarding Staff Member Tammy Petree

January 10, 2019

Dear Campus Community,

It is with deep sadness that I write to inform you of the death of UC Merced staff member Tammy Petree. After a lengthy battle with cancer, Tammy passed away on Wednesday.

Our thoughts go out to Tammy’s husband Clint, two sons Chase and Blake, and her friends and loved ones during this sad time. Information will be shared shortly regarding a campus memorial.

Tammy PetreeTammy began her career at UC Merced in 2010, supporting Physical Planning, Design & Construction. In 2015, she became a founding member of the Administrative Coordination Team (ACT). Tammy was an inspiration in the workplace. She will always be remembered for her kindness, love for her family, and dedication to work. She was a valued team member and a great friend, and she will be dearly missed.

During these sad times, it is important to remember resources are available. In addition to supporting each other through our friendships, counseling is available through the campus.

Students can contact Counseling and Psychological Services 24 hours day at 209-228-4266 to speak with a counselor over the phone. For staff and faculty, INSIGHT, our employee assistance program, is an available resource and can be accessed by calling 800-422-5322; a clinician will be at the Downtown Campus Center on Monday, Jan. 14, to offer group and individual sessions to assist with grief and loss. The University of California also offers substantial behavioral health benefits to employees.

I also want to encourage all of us to reach out to our friends, family and each other for support in response to this sad news.

Sincerely,

Michael Riley
Interim Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer
