Merced 2020 Lake Lots 1&2 Close After Finals

December 11, 2017

The beginning of Winter Break will kick off the next milestone in our Merced 2020 campus expansion. Lake Lots 1 and 2 will close after finals to support the expansion of the construction site, and the new pedestrian path will open.

The Lake Lots will close Saturday Dec. 16 so that construction can begin on multiple new recreation fields , a student wellness and counseling building and an enrollment center with classrooms included.

At that time, the new Bellevue Parking lot will be the site of all lower campus parking. A new 700-foot, paved, accessible pedestrian path connecting the Bellevue lot to Scholars Lane will open to the campus at the same time.

Bellevue Lot Details

The Bellevue Parking Lot has two entrances. The first is located at the Lake/Bellevue intersection and a second exists along northbound Lake Road.

The Bellevue lot replaces parking lost with the closure of the Lake lots. Phase 2 will be complete by Fall 2020 and will expand campus parking by 60 percent — about 1,500 spaces more than we have right now.

Traffic Light Update

Initial activation of the new traffic light at Bellevue and Lake roads caused significant delays at the end of the workday on Dec. 6. We apologize for the frustration and inconvenience caused to the campus community. We’ve decided to keep the light flashing red as a four-way stop until traffic flow can be better regulated.

We appreciate the patience and support of the campus community as we work to build the future here in the heart of California. Stay informed by visiting the project website . Questions can be emailed to construction2020@ucmerced.edu .

Sincerely,

The Merced 2020 Construction Team
